I got a crazy good deal on a brand new one of these in the BL-2s trim. The BL-2s line debuted with the clipless body and Extra Heavy Duty (EHD) shock towers, steering blocks/rear hub carriers, arms, and chunky plastic fixed links instead of adjustable rods.
The BL-2S system isn't overly powerful for the car, but it's adequate to have a good time. With a mesh chassis cover and no fans the ESC and motor both can get pretty hot to the touch on the stock setup and 70 deg F ambient temps. The 4x4 makes it go where you want it, the stock radio is a little short on features but works.
Overall compared to the Pro4 SC10 and Arrma Senton 3S BLX, I think you get less in the package for the price. No 3S capability/speed, no sway bars, non-adjustable tie rods. But for the price I got it, I'm happy, and I think it is a good option for younger kids and designed to be fairly low-maintenance.
It's hard to argue with the amount of upgrades and mods available for it. The only upgrade for 3S needed is the ESC/Motor and a metal center shaft which can be had for $20ish for the Traxxas and a little more for the Tekno option.

I had an issue with my EHD driveshafts binding on the car after just 1 run in dusty conditions. I recommend if you notice it is hard to turn the wheels and make the diff actuate, that you remove and clean the universal joints and add some grease. Since then it's been running better.
The Slash 4x4 uses standard 12mm wheel hexes and Slash 4x4/Slash 2WD Rear offset. For more on the confusing world of SCT wheel offsets, see What Do Short Course Offsets Mean? **WIP**
For bashing on mixed surfaces I recommend Jconcepts Landmines or Pro-Line Badlands.
